The Pen & Wig, 1 Park Grove, Cardiff CF10 3BJ
In the Pen & Wig the staff are just as welcoming and friendly to dogs as they are to humans. It has plenty of shaded spots in the fantastic beer garden that’s open all year round, so your companion can chill out and stay cool in the rare Cardiff sun. The garden does get busy at peak times, probably as it’s one of the best sun traps in the city centre, so if it is then head inside where your pooch is welcome too! They can also get a free dog treat and water bowl here too!
The Red Lion Pub and Restaurant, Red Lion Cottages, Bonvilston, Cardiff, CF5 6TP
This pub and restaurant’s dog-friendly values have lasted the test of time. Here pooches are well looked after, and can make friends with Jack, the resident Springer Spaniel. As long as your dog is well behaved then they are allowed in the bar to sit alongside you whilst you eat (if your dog doesn’t fall into that category then don’t hesitate to give me a call and we’ll have you out dining together in no time!). There are dog treats available at the bar but don’t forget to roam the grassy area outside, and don’t worry about your dog coming back in with muddy paws- tiled flooring means they aren’t ever an issue.
The Horse and Jockey, Chapel Terrace, Tyn-yr-odyn, Cardiff, CF5 6BJ
The Horse and Jockey is right next to some of West Cardiff’s best dog walks- why not spend the day out in the woods and then pop in for a refreshment afterwards. This doggy pub caters to all people and all dogs. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the bar or outside where there are plenty of water bowls, umbrellas, and shade. Dogs can enjoy a treat whilst their humans enjoy some pub grub and real ales. Again, after walk in the woods your pup’s paws may be a little muddy, but despite the spotless interior this is never a problem for the staff!
